Registration fees:

  • Conf “early bird” registration fee (by March 15, 2010): $135.00 + annual membership ($50.00)
  • Conf “later” registration (after March 15): $160.00 + annual membership ($50.00)


Recommended optional event costs:

  • Closing conference buffet dinner (Sat. 6/19, at the UCLA Faculty Center, time TBA): +$25.00
  • Transportation/admission to the Los Angeles County Museum’s Jazz Concert & the Carter Dutch painting collection (Fri. eve, 6/18): +$10.00
  • Transportation/admission to the Getty Museum, Brentwood (Sat. 6/19, time TBA): +$10.00
  • Student (full-time) registration costs:

A block of rooms are offered at a reduced rate for conference participants at the Palomar Hotel, Westwood. AIRPORT (LAX) TRANSPORTATION TO THE HOTEL:

Besides rental cars or taxi cabs, participants may also take the new LAX Flyaway Bus, $5.00 each way, direct to Westwood Village. Visit the Flyaway website for the LAX flyaway schedule: (http://www.lawa.org). The Flyaway bus drops you off at the Westwood stop (located at Kinross Avenue and Weyburn Place); the hotel is approximately 6/10ths of a mile east on Wilshire Boulevard (at Selby); this is a 12-minute walk. (Or, after you’ve arrived at the Flyaway Westwood stop, walk a block or two south to Wilshire Blvd, and then hop one of numerous public commuter buses traveling east along Wilshire Blvd – from there, it is a short ride to the intersection of Wilshire and Selby Avenue, where the hotel is located).


GETTING FROM HOTEL PALOMAR TO UCLA’S ROYCE HALL:

The distance from the hotel to the conference location (Royce Hall, northwest campus) is 1.1 miles, or a 25-minute walk via a quiet residential neighborhood. A courtesy Palomar SUV is available for “drop-off” service onto campus at no charge. Taking a taxi cab or walking to Westwood Village (.4 miles) to pick up a UCLA campus shuttle (www.transportation.ucla.edu) to catch a ride onto campus are also options.

AANS is an interdisciplinary organization that promotes the study of the language, literature and culture of the Dutch-speaking world in the United States.

The organization maintains contact among persons engaged in teaching and research in the field of Netherlandic Studies, which includes the language, literature, art, music, history and contemporary civilization of the Netherlands, Flanders, Suriname, the Netherlands Antilles and areas where the historical influence of Dutch culture is in evidence today, such as South Africa and Indonesia.

Furthermore, AANS provides opportunity for the dissemination of information, exchange of ideas, discussion of common problems and diffusion of scholarly knowledge in areas related to her purpose.
